I recently got Quantum Fiber installed and they installed a C5500XK SmartNID. It provides the services of both a Modem/Fiber endpoint as well as a router. I think that in order to use the EdgerouterX I just need to change Advanced>WAN Settings>ISP Protocol from "Auto" to "Transparent Bridging"..

The C5500 is a ONT/router combo so you have to put it in transparent bridge mode indeed.
