Any other wires that are on those terminals go to either an idle stabilizer or an "advance" module. Both can be troublesome, as a short to ground will advance the timing at WOT so far it'll likely throw parts at you. MODEL YEAR CHART. Mercury did not publish model year information for 1997 & newer outboards. The year is now normally noted on the serial number sticker. NOTE: Mercury DOES NOT Use Model Years For Parts Lookup. This Chart Is For. Mercury's software. So if your serial number is "01234567" you would use only.

i have 1986 mercury black max xr2 150 on my fishing boat. when the motor is cold i have fire on 1,2, but no fire on 3,4,5,6.take a blow dryer and warm motor up some and u will get fire on 3,4,5,6 and motor will start,and as long as u keep the motor warm by starting every so often the motor will start and run great.if u let motor get cold and no fire on 3,4,5,6 and motor will not start.The part number for this module is #41470A26, it is $418 Mercury retail. Very expensive part to tell you that your engine mounted oil tank is low.
